Peru’s grape exports likely to grow 30.6% in 2010:
Lima, Nov. 12 (ANDINA). Peru’s grape exports would grow 30.6 percent to US$176.6 million in 2010 compared to last year, while volume is likely to rise 23.6 percent to 74,900 tons, consulting firm Maximixe reported.
Major exports will be enhanced by the dynamism of United States and Hong Kong markets, as well as by the increased average export price of US$2.40 per kilogram, an increase in the price compared to last year.
Likewise, Peru is expected to increase exports to China as a result of the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA, which took place March, 2010.
Exports totaled US$61.9 million between January and August this year, a 55.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2009.
Last year, grape exports reached US$135.3 million and 60,600 tons, a 62.2% and 38% increase, respectively, compared to 2008.
The main destination for Peruvian grapes is the United States -comprising 23.1 percent of total exports- followed by Holland (18.2 percent) and Hong Kong (12 percent).
El Pedregal, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta and Drokasa are three major exporting companies responsible for 47.4 percent of the total volume exported.
Andina.
